ThinPrint Host Integration Service

Boxshot ThinPrint .print Host Integration Service

Integration of SAP and Unix spool servers in Microsoft Remote Desktop Services and Citrix XenApp environments

Are you also using Microsoft Remote Desktop Services or Citrix XenApp to access central company applications such as ERP, PPS or CRM systems?
While corporate applications usually run on their own application server, the user interface (e.g. SAPGUI or Unix emulation) is usually provided through a terminal server or web browser. Since print jobs are usually created on a spool server, this architecture often leads to significant drawbacks with regard to print management. Use ThinPrint Host Integration Service to overcome the challenges to effective print management posed by such architecture.

How it works

If a user creates a print job on a shared system, the Host Integration Service initially analyses on which terminal or XenApp server the user is working. The print job is then transferred from the application or spool server to the correct terminal server via TCP/IP. From there, the print job is transmitted with bandwidth monitoring in compressed form using the ICA or RDP protocol to the workstation. The print data are then decompressed and sent to the local printer for final printing, without any loss in quality.

If the application or spool server creates PDF data, they are transmitted directly to the end terminal in a highly compressed form and printed directly using Adobe Reader.

Your benefits

  • Dynamic, user-oriented distribution of print jobs lets your staff work and print flexibly.
  • Your print jobs are transmitted securely via the RDP/ICA virtual channel without the need to open a separate print port.
  • Conserve resources by using thin clients in this environment.
  • Easily integrate local printers, even at the home workstation.
  • Bandwidth management and high compression of the print data ensure efficient print job processing and relieve the burden on your Terminal or Citrix servers.
  • Your print data is delivered securely even when using network masquerading.
  • Port-pooling increases the availability of printers in your corporate network.
  • PDF spool files are processed user-friendly.
